Safety First!

The first and most important goal of the Grafton County Fish & Game Association is to provide a safe environment where members and event participants can enjoy the shooting sports. That requires everyone to use good judgement and to follow the club’s rules and regulations! (<- click here)

Summer Social Shoots

After Women’s Range Day, we want to support our new members on their journeys.  Summer SOCIAL SHOOTS for each discipline are in the works – one a month, June through October.  We’ll provide equipment for you to try out, and you’ll have more hands-on time with coaches and one another.  Dates to be scheduled.

Three winter classes for women led by Spitfire Firearms Training

#1 Practical Firearms Handling: Held in January, this class was a great success.  Participants had a chance to learn what to look for to know a pistol is “safe,” how to load and unload a mag, and how to load a round in the chamber and how to remove it, as well as how to keep the pistol safe in the classroom setting.

#2 Practical Handgun Cleaning: Held in February, instructors led the students through a step by step process of the whys and hows of practical cleaning.  Students either brought their own firearm or borrowed a loaner from Spitfire to help build confidence.

#3 Concealed Carry Considerations for Women: March 11, 2024  4-6 pm. Simply, there are so many ways to carry for personal protection, so many personal preferences, and so many different styles from which to choose!  AND, so many purchases that didn’t quite suit your needs.  Every option has a pro and a con.  Come explore the options with us!

Note: Weather make-up classes will take place the following Monday from 4-6 pm

Registration: Space is limited, so register soon. Email womenofgcfga@gcfga.org with your name, the name of the course(s) you are registering for, and note whether or not you are a current member of the Grafton County Fish & Game Association.

Price per course: GCFGA Member cost: $10     GCFGA Non-member cost: $25

Payment will be accepted in person the day of the course.  Payment by check (payable to Spitfire) is preferred; cash acceptable, too.

Membership rates are very low at this time of year, so consider joining first! https://gcfga.org/membership/

2023 Turkey Shoot Results

The club’s first turkey shoot was a hit – hosted by our Women’s Program for all members! Two participants earned perfect scores of 100, and more than half scored at 90 or above! One Dad gave his son his two targets to shoot, and watching the improvement and enjoyment was special. Dad’s prize was the huge smiles! Another Dad’s two daughters are talking about joining our Women’s Program. Grampa and Granddaughter had a chance to shoot side by side. More smiles, including the participant who said when she brought her target back: At least this one’s alive!

11th Annual Ladies Only Day At the Range
Saturday, May 20 – A Great Success!

2023 participants in Ladies Only Range Day

This was the first year the newly formed Women’s Program Committee led this event – many thanks to the board and membership for supporting not only the Ladies’ Day but also our ongoing programs to support women in fun, safe and learning ways. Ladies’ Day started in 2013, and it includes a chance to sample archery, pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooting along with a lovely lunch and raffles! It is always FREE to all participants. Fifty-five women (members and non members) participated. A number of participants became members that day.

Meet ups – ANY women member can send a note to the entire women’s membership – womenofgcfga@gcfga.org – to let us know when you are planning a range trip and what range you plan to work!  We’ve heard from a few new members that they are more likely to use the ranges when they feel more comfortable with their chosen piece(s).  Also, several have said they like joining with another woman for the social aspect as well!  SO, you have the tools – our email – to make your wishes come true!

If you’d like more information, have suggestions, or would like to join our mailing list, please drop us a line at womenofgcfga@gcfga.com and one of us will get back to you!
